Man, he laid the irony on thick. Now, I know Richt has a job to do, but man what a difference a year makes. Not quite sure what I’m talking about? Let’s take a look at Richt’s recent comments about being left out of the BCS Championship game:
“Let’s face it, going into today we were ranked No. 4 in the BCS. They ranked us there for a reason. They believed we belonged there… Everybody knew going in we were not going to play for a conference championship and still they voted us there. They voted us there for a reason and I don’t know why that should change right now.”
Okay, so what happens if you take the bulk of Richt’s comments from this quote and, well, I don’t know, maybe apply it to the exact friggin situation Michigan was in last year. Michigan had a week off, dropped in the rankings, and was given the party line that if you aren’t a conference champ, you don’t deserve to be in the title game. Hell, even Mark Richt himself was one of the voters in 2006 who voted Florida ahead of Michigan in this exact same scenario.
Oh how quickly we forget Mark. Only a year away, and well, who knew: suddenly a change of heart. Fancy that.
