-Ian O’Connor at Fox Sport [Ed. note: I really need to stop reading anything from these guys at FS] says that Bonds benefits from guys like Jose Guillen getting nailed with ‘roids allegations. Honestly people. If it’s not a future Hall of Famer, it’s not helping Bonds. Really, A-Rod is about the only guy who would help Bonds if he got caught with ‘roids. Bonds is still the epitome of steroids in baseball, and very little will change that.

-After their World Cup run, Argentina wants into the 6-nations tournament. They are better than Italy so it would up the competition… but the Western Hemisphere needs Argentina to help get countries like Canada and the US to to a higher level of competition.

-Giants GM Brian Sabean needs to be stopped. Now he’s talking about trading Tim Lincecum for a “quality bat”. I don’t care what bat he gets, what does the Giants rotation look like without Lincecum? Awful… just awful.

-On a similar note, the “rebuilding” Giants are close to signing the AARP member/ shortstop Omar Vizquel. Is it just me, or is it a terrible idea when rebuilding a team to pay $5.5million for a 61-year old who hit .246 in 2007 and had a VORP (value over replacement player) of -9.1. That’s $5.5 million for production BELOW that of your average replacement player.

-After one of the worst starts in school history, Michigan is sitting pretty and is looking at either the Rose Bowl against Arizona State or Oregon or the Capital One Bowl against the SEC #2… possibly Florida.

-Did anyone else see Charlie Weiss pass on a field goal in the 4th quarter against Navy… a team totally incapable of driving down the field with the time remaining even if you do miss? I thought this guy was supposed to be an uber-coach… instead he made a decision that possibly cost Notre Dam their game against Navy.

-The Marlins are dangling Miguel Cabrera. After three years of dangling Dontrelle Willis, you will have to excuse me if I don’t think a trade is all that likely. Cabrera is set to make about $10 mil next year, and fired Scott Boras as his agent previously… I think I’d rather trade for Cabrera and pay him $15 mil for 6+ years than sign A-Rod for the low, low price of a small country.

-Looking for a team with the potential to land a good trade this offseason? How about the Red Sox, who have six good pitchers competing for starting gigs, and Coco Crisp out of the picture in centerfield. If they don’t resign Mike Lowell, I could easily see Crisp and a guy like Wakefield bringing a decent player. I think the White Sox, who are looking for both a starter and a centerfielder, would be one team to consider.

-Seems like Bill Doba is being predicted to be fired by so many people that it almost has to happen now. I still don’t think he needs to be fired, but with so many saying he gets a pink slip I don’t know that the University has any other option.
