The Man Who Sued God… And It’s Not Charlie Weiss

September 18th, 2007 · No Comments

man_who_sued_god_small.jpgIf someone had a right to sue God right now, it might be Charlie Weiss who is getting no help from Touchdown Jesus evidenced by the fact that the Catholic school has 0.. count ‘em up… 0 touchdowns. “Our God is vengeful! O spiteful one, show me who to smite and they shall be smoten!”

But it’s not Charlie, and it’s actually got nothing to do with Notre Dame, or sports, but I thought that this story was completely noteworthy: Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers filed a lawsuit against God.

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants.”

The Omaha senator, who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, also says God has caused “fearsome floods … horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes.”

He’s seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty.

Pissed off about frivolous lawsuits in the U.S. - and let’s face it, we are a sue-happy country - Chambers thinks that if he can pull off having his case heard against the Almighty in a court of law, it is essentially a sign that our legal system is completely ridiculous and anyone has the ability to sue anyone… legitimate reasoning or not.

In a related story, Rex Grossman filed a suit in district court against the “fumble ferry” for her role in the Bears’ Super Bowl loss to the Colts.
