Show ‘Em Your ‘O’ Face

ozolinsh.JPGSpeaking of the Sharks, another move - if you call signing Jeremy Roenick a ‘move’ and not a mistake - is that they seem to be offering all types tryouts. Included in this group is former Shark Sandis Ozolinsh, who I remember best for missing an empty net in game 7 against Toronto in the ‘94 playoffs. Yea, I don’t hold grudges at all.

But to be honest… this is a very Billy Beane-esque move here, because if Ozolinsh can contribute he becomes one of very few veteran blueliners and helps to fill the void left by Scott Hannan in the offseason. Its not a bad move by the Sharks, and GM Doug Wilson has obviously laid down his hand that shows he likes to give former teammates (most likely those with the goods on “one nut Doug”) a second third fourth another chance. Actually, when I start to look at these signings/ tryouts as an A’s fan it’s hard not to see similar decisions made by Billy Beane (Milton Bradley, Frank Thomas), which helps… but still doesn’t totally answer my questions, and I’m not entirely certain that I like the post-strike NHL where the Sharks would rather give Ozolinsh his final chance than keep a player like Hannan.
