The Cougar Is A Brave And Noble Creature

cougar_attack.jpg[Each week during the football season I will be breaking down the WSU Cougar’s weekend match up and then predicting the outcome; let’s see if I can get one right!]

Okay, so I’ll admit I did not really see WSU blowing SDSU out of the water like they did in Seattle last week. Our offense certainly is clicking right now and it will be nice to finally get the team at home in Pullman in the new and improved Martin Stadium (all new bathrooms people… let’s hear it!). But buyer beware, this week the Cougars aren’t playing your daddy’s Idaho Vandals. If I was a betting man, this might be a game to open the wallet for because Idaho is a very dangerous team this weekend for the Cougars for a few reasons.

The first of which is Rob Akey, who is a dirty, dirty traitor who left WSU this offseason for Idaho. So Akey knows a little bit about the Cougars team, strengths and weaknesses. He definately has an inside edge that Bill Belichick couldn’t possibly get with all the rogue cameramen in the world. Rob is dead to me… but he still has the goods and that definitely helps to even the playing field.

Then, there’s baby Stephen Jackson. Deonte Jackson is Stephen Jackson’s nephew, and tried to follow his uncle’s path to Oregon State but Dennis Erickson convinced Jackson to head over to Idaho when he took the head coaching job last season. So now Idaho has Deonte who rushed for 99 yards against #1 USC in L.A. and he’s part of the team led by the former WSU defensive coordinator. Something tells me that his weekend will not be the slaughter the Vegas lines have made it out to be.

Right now the line sits at 26 in favor of the Cougars, and that is a very bettable line right now when you consider that Idaho only lost to USC by 28. So keeping that in mind, here’s my projection for the week - and keep in mind I was waaaay off last week in terms of score, but dead on when it came to the line:

I’m taking Idaho to beat the 26 point spread, but taking WSU to win the game:
WSU 34
Idaho 19
