[Sometimes its better to devote an entire post to a subject. Other times a line or two is all it takes. In those cases, its time for the cross legged mutant]
-Next week 0-2 Notre Dame is going to travel to Ann Arbor to play 0-2 Michigan. Also, South Florida is ranked higher than both the U and Florida State. Did I just come out of a coma or something? Come on… friends… family… something you’re not telling me?
-The Americans - who have only two Rugby World Cup victories ever - lost to defending champs England 10-28. It is yet to be seen if this is a great sign of the US team’s improvement or if it is the most damning of indictments for England’s chances at repeating.
-We’re already down to that time of year, where “magic numbers” begin to be discussed… potentially the most useless stat, especially when you consider the Milwaukee Brewers, whose magic number of 20 means that if they win all of their remaining games they will clinch the NL Central. Pardon me if I don’t see that stat helpful at all.
-The New York friggin’ Yankees are almost now a lock for the playoffs after being considered dead in the water before the All-Star break. As much as I hate them, a movie just isn’t as dramatic without the villain… so in that case welcome back to the playoff race you d-bags.
-Roger Federer won his 4th straight US Open today prompting me to think: “when the hell did the US Open start?” I’m sorry, but football is back… tennis isn’t even on the radar.
-Is it just me or is this year’s AFC Championship game between the Patriots and Colts going to be more important than the Super Bowl itself?
-Our WSU Cougars beat the SDSU Aztecs 45-17; so much for that 14 point spread. With win number two coming next week against Idaho… I’m starting to like our chances at a bowl game.
-Rick Ankiel took HGH in 2004 as part of a failed pithing comeback and post-surgery. Seriously… who cares? This is just like Tim Couch and so far way more stories of failure have been connected to HGH and steroids than success. I’m really starting to wonder - at least in baseball - how much this crap actually helps… and I’m starting to think it’s very little. No wag of the finger to Ankiel… the HGH is probably 99% likely to have had no effect on his performances as an outfielder. I think potential liver failre, cancer, and other such ailments are punishment enough for those who take this garbage.
-I’m still wondering how Jeremy Roenick will help the Sharks in 2007-08 as a 3rd line center. As my brother pointed out, it’s very possible that Roenick caught Sharks’ GM Doug Wilson is a very compromising position back when they were teammates. If it’s a triple nipple Doug, don’t worry its not bad enough to warrant this. If it’s a third testicle however… well, then I’d have to say it was a smart decision.
-This is the first weekend in a long time I can actually say that I was able to spend more time watching sports than reading or blogging about them. Welcome back football… don’t ever leave me again.
