Because they’ve got new unis, and if I have learned anything from sports, new unis always make fans forget the disappointments of past seasons, right?
Now, it’s a given that the Sharks did make the playoffs and got out of the first round, but they were a team who were pretty much ‘conference finals or bust’, so a second round loss was disappointing. I think the only consolation of the uniform change is that it seemed to have empowered the Mighty Ducks on their title run last year, so maybe there is something to this whole thing.
In the end, it’s just tough as a fan to see a new logo and not be critical. I’ve been a fan of the Sharks since their creation in 1991. So that’s 15 years of getting used to one logo; don’t expect me to love this new ‘comic book’ version right out of the gates.
Old and New:

I’m coping with the new logos… but it’s all going to hinge on what the actual jerseys look like and I don’t think those are going to be released until 9.17. To be totally honest, they remind me way too much of the NY Islanders fisherman logo from circa 1995, and that logo was a monument to all crappy logo changes.
Honestly, as a fan of a 15 year old team I was hoping that the uni change stereotypical of teams in a ‘midlife crisis’ was at least 5 years out. Well, guess I’d better start coping with this… way to pile it all on me this weekend guys; maybe it’s time to try out that whole pantsless trend?

[…] Yesterday the Sharks signed veteran center Jeremy Roenick to a one year deal worth $500,000. I can’t tell if Roenick will be the Sharks’ third line center or fourth line center; either way this deal makes very little sense for either party, and is best summed up by my brother’s comment from yesterday: Why?
