Why I Couldn’t Even Blog Yesterday

September 2nd, 2007 · 1 Comment

app-st.jpgHonestly, for most sports fans one loss in a day and you are upset. Two losses and let’s face it: you pick fights, you are not pleasant to be around, food tastes worse, beer isn’t as refreshing. So yesterday was by far the worst sports day of my entire life. Between the hours of 12:00pm and 4:00pm I suffered heartbreak in the form of a loss four times. That’s four losses in four hours. So yea, I wasn’t exactly in the mood to blog. Hell, I couldn’t even think about my blog because at that point anything sports related was like salt on an open wound.

12:00 pm
Home from the gym, out of the shower I finally turn on my laptop for the first time in the day to check up on some game scores. What the f*^k? Appalachian State beating Michigan? How the name of Zeus does something like this happen. So I get on the phone, call my dad (who is a Michigan alumni and raised me correctly to be a fan of the Wolverines) to talk the end of the game through.

Good. Michael Hart ran for a 54-yard touchdown; surely the game has been saved. Time to focus my attention to the CSU (where I am an alumni) - CU game where the Rams are up by 3 with only minutes to go. Of course the Buffs got a pass interference call that might have been let go in the first quarter, but the Buffs are infamous for getting those calls in this rivalry game in the 4th quarter. Now all the Rams can do is hold to a field goal and pray for the best.

Okay, great. After Mike Hart’s TD run, the maize and blue drove down and are setting up for a field goal; again, the Wolverines are going to get dropped in the ranks, but a win is a win.

First overtime in the CSU-CU game. Haine gets intercepted. It’s not over, but I have to concede that CU can at least get 3 in their shot in OT. So that’s it, loss number one.

Back to the Michigan game just to be certain… weren’t they setting up for a field goal? What the hell happened? App St. big play one… App St. big play two.. what the hell? Ok, App St. inside the Michigan 10 on first and goal with :30 left to go. That’s it, they’ll run it in or run the clock and take the field goal for the win. What? They kicked it on 1st down? Who the hell does that? Well, now UM is one big play from field goal range. And thank Mannangham for that big play. Six seconds on the clock and Michigan is in field goal range. Okay, now this should work itself out. What… you’ve got to be f&%*ing kidding me? Loss number two.

And a special thanks to App St. for that 1st down field goal - App St. coach, you per chance been eatin’ lead paint chips off cheap Chinese toys - which completely and totally added to the emotional roller coaster and let me have hope. For that, you can go to hell. I’m not in a good mood at all…

12:30pm
Well, that’s two close, tough losses to start the day. I can’t get my hopes up for the WSU (my current school) - Wisconsin game because they are playing way above their pay scale. Get in the mindset to be okay with what happens and start to watch.

14-7 WSU with a blocked punt recovered and run for a first down? Recovered a fumbled Wisconsin punt? Running all over the Badgers? Preperations be dammed… we’re winning this thing.

3:00pm
Okay, no, we’re not winning this thing, the game is getting out of hand and Alex Brink just isn’t playing at the same level he was in the first quarter. Down by 14 it’s time to switch over to the A’s game to see how Oakland is doing.

1-6? Great. Fabulous. Fantastic. That’s four losses: one day. This sucks… I hate sports.

I need beer… lots of beer.
