The Major League Storyline Just Never Gets Old

nashville.jpgSeriously, how is it that a movie made in 1989 would be prophetic to 2006-2007. Lately, there have been at least two professional franchises who have blatantly ripped off the Charlie Sheen/ Tom Berenger film.

In case you live in a cave, the plot entails the a team tanking so they can lower attendance and move the team. The Seattle Sonics - before divine intervention gave them the 2nd overall pick this year - were the first to follow the tactic. Now, completely off the radar, the Nashville Predators are setting the stage for an exit out of Tennessee and likely into a Canadian city such as Winnipeg. The first stage, was to trade up and coming player Scott Hartnell and Kimmo Timonen to the Philadelphia Flyers for the Flyers’ 2007 first round pick. In the NHL, no first round pick is a sure thing, so its pretty shady when you trade two starters - one with promise - for a single pick.

In addition, the team probably won’t be re-signing any of its big name talent.

According to Nashville Predators general manager David Poile, it will be difficult for the club to re-sign any of its potential free agents.

That group includes Paul Kariya, Peter Forsberg, Scott Nichol, Jerred Smithson and Vitaly Vishnevski.

A mass exodus will likely hurt the team’s chances of staying in Nashville, as ticket sales are tied to the Predators’ lease agreement.

So sorry Nashville fans. Say goodbye to the Preds… there’s no Kevin Durant to save this team.
