I call shenanigans on that one. Farve wants to be traded, of course he does, but he can’t demand a trade. Catch my drift?
No? Allow me to elaborate on my wild and crazy theory here. My take on the Brett Favre deal is this: Green Bay fans are some of the most loyal in all of sports, and neither Brett Favre or the Packers front office wants to be the ones who are then to blame for Brett wearing another uni.
First, think about it from Favre’s perspective. Other than Atlanta, he has pretty much enjoyed his entire career playing for one team. Fans there love him, and might even kill for him if he asked them to. If Brett publicly demanded a trade that went through, he would most likely end up spending his final season or two struggling with another team, and would then have to go out of the league a la Drew Bledsoe: being remembered as an ineffective veteran on some rando team instead of being remembered as a a hero. If Brett bounces because of his say so, he risks losing a lot of face.
As for the management, would you want to be the one whose name would be linked to making the deal to send away the Pack’s hero? Hell no, not me. In today’s modern age I bet it would be about 30 minutes before Cheeseheads tracked down the address of the culprit and pee on them while they beat him mercilessly with replica helmets. Not my cup of tea.
So I love seeing the articles, and how quickly Favre backpedaled there, because Brett is a Packer for life, and that’s the way it should be.
