Chipper Jones Makes Startling Discovery: Life Is Not Fair

May 14th, 2007 · No Comments

0592875053_lockerroom-chipper.jpgHey, I knew it… now Chipper knows it: Major League Baseball has only three real concerns and those are profits, profits, and whores.

Chipper came to find out about concerns one and two by the fact that his Atlanta Braves get stuck playing the Bo Sox more than any other team in interleague play. And there’s also the Mets who get the same deal but with the Yankees. Seems that Major League Baseball is, and has been, setting up high interest/ big money games while ignoring the implications it may have on individual pennant races. True its only three games, but if the race in the NL East comes down to three games or less, someone… possibly even Chipper, could wag their finger at this and make a case that MLB’s scheduling had an impact on the pennant race.

“If we’re going to play the American League Central, everybody has to play all the teams in the American League Central,” Jones said. “This split-it-up and we have to play our rival in the American League East stuff, I don’t get it. It’s unfair for us and the Mets on a year-in, year-out basis to have to play the Yankees and Red Sox when other teams don’t.”

Well, as much as it was a no brainer, that needed to be said, and I am glad Chipper got the ball rolling because I don’t think MLB is going to listen to fans.. and probably not even Congress. Star players are really the only ones they listen to, so kudos to Chipper for speaking out against his employer… it was about time.
