A 2-2 series, all tied up after a 3-2 overtime victory last night by the Red Wings over the Sharks. Despite the fact that I would have loved, absolutely adored the Sharks taking a 3-1 lead and having the Wings with their backs to the wall, I can also stop to recognize that its the excitement in times like this that make me glad to be a hockey fan.
My only question though is: what’s up with the Sharks’ magic number of 2? So far, four games into the series, the Sharks have scored exactly two goals in each game. They have won two games by the scores 2-0 and 2-1, and lost two games 3-2, one of which was last night, March 2nd. The game was sent into overtime by Robert Lang’s 2nd goal of the playoffs and was won when Mathieu Schneider put his 2nd of the playoffs into the net.
I’m no expert, but I don’t think two goals is ever going to cut it when you are outshot 49-27. For every save Hasek made, Nabokov had to make… of course, 2. This is also the 2nd round of the playoffs and the Sharks will either win 2 more games to advance, or lose 2 and go home, something that would not surprise me considering that San Jose’s power play units have only managed to net 2 goals in 17 chances.
We will know more about the fate of the Sharks in two days time, when the series goes back to Detriot.
