Goodbye Drew… The Clipboard Will Never Be Held The Same

bledsoe.jpgOkay, that’s rough… especially for a WSU alum who is probably one of the biggest products the school has ever put out. Earlier on in his career, Drew put up some sick numbers, but after being usurped by a third NFL team (NE with Tom Brady, BUF with JP Losman, and DAL with Tony “slick hands” Romo), it was time to call it quits and Drew retired rather than go out with more fans thinking of him as a backup than a starter who led his team to a Super Bowl. So I do appreciate everything Drew has done for WSU, in terms of being that example of what good can come from playing in Pullman, and also that Ryan Leaf is the exception to the rule, not the standard. Most - if not all - WSU athletes are pretty much the antithesis of the “me first” Ryan Leaf. Just look at the basketball team this year, and that is pretty much the school’s attitude towards sports: its about the team dammit!

But school pride aside, I will say one thing, and that is that no matter how much Drew is responsible for legitimizing Cougar football and helped bring recruits to the Palouse… I must say that he set the image of the white athlete back about twenty years. Good lord, I mean, did he have lead implants in his legs or something? My grandmother probably moves better in the pocket.

So it is with mixed feelings that I say, goodbye Drew we may or may not miss you.
