Pete and …
Just kidding, but history seems like it is repeating itself with the Detroit Lions rationalizations when it comes to talent evaluation. Rumors and Rants did a good job setting this one up for me, so I’ll let them take it from here:
So we started thinking maybe Millen is on a roll, finally coming into his own or simply not making moves after a night of coke and jager-bombs…
Apparently Millen and the Lions brass aren’t sold on offensive lineman Joe Thomas at the No. 2 pick because “his arms aren’t the ideal length for an NFL tackle,” and Detroit is now seriously considering taking Brady Quinn with the pick…
Christ people. He doesn’t have long enough arms? That’s all you can come up with? Let’s ask all of the defensive lineman he faced in college about that … Oh right, they’re all still recovering. Thomas and Calvin Johnson are universally regarded as the only sure things in this draft.
So instead of making the same mistake and drafting a wide receiver, the Lions are poised to go right back to stage 1 of the Matt Millen campaign, and fans in the Motor City get to revisit the Joey Harrington ordeal all over again… this time its just not going to be in their nightmares, its going to be for real.

This is why I hate living in Michigan. Also probably why as a child I rooted for teams outside of my state to the point that I hate all of the ones in it (except for the Tigers). I’ll die before the Lions make the playoffs. If Millen didn’t give such great dome Ford would’ve fired him last year. But his rub n’ tug is still in top form so he gave him an extension. Let’s root for carpal tunnel!

Yes. The Lions do suck and Matt Millen is a large part of that…. well, no, he is probably completely to blame. But after being raised in a Maize and Blue household I do know that the state of Michigan (note not Michigan State) does have a lot to offer, and they do have the Red Wings too… who aren’t too shabby.

I’m not a big hockey guy but I root for the Wings to be successful. As a youngster I somehow became a Florida fan and have stuck to that. This is probably in large part due to being the only true sports fan in my household. Outside of my dads golf obsession. So their was no “Hey you should like this team” going on. My Pistons issue is currently work at the Palace and its just easier for me if they lose. I know, I’m a selfish bastard. But the longer they play the less homework I can do at work and the less time I have to do other things.
