Unfortunately it had to come at the expense of Chris Drury, and in no way do I want to make fun of what happened to him, but after seeing the images of the Buffalo-Ottawa game last night, I was wondering if USC goalie Mickey Meyer was going to come out and strip on the ice to complete the Slapshot parody.

Ever since the NHL cut down on fighting by introducing the instigation major fights like these just have not happened very often, and in hockey, let’s face it, fighting is not only part of the game, it is essential. Its called protection. Think about how many defensive ends would take cheap shots at QBs if they knew they would then have to go toe to to with one of the offensive lineman… or better yet, all 5 offensive linemen?
My biggest question though is about how soon Ottawa fires their head coach. Not for the cheap shot on Drury, that’s all Chris Neal’s crap to deal with now. No, who puts Jason Spezza and Danny Heatley out for a faceoff after Buffalo’s captain goes down with a cheap shot and no penalty is called? That would be like waking up a hibernating bear and waiting around to see what happens. Dumb dumb dumb.
[UPDATE: Video tells it all, so here is the footage that I found at Signal to Noise via Off Wing Option]
