scottish-soccer-hooligan-weekly.jpgSoccer hooliganism: because when I think of watching an entire soccer match, I want to kick in a few skulls too…

Okay, here is the irony to me. One of the lest violent sports right now is causing issues in three European nations right now(Germany, Brazil, and Italy) and fans beating the living crap out of each other is a problem that just can’t seem to be solved. Meanwhile, the RBS 6 Nations rugby tournament is being played with rugby union arguably the most violent sport on Earth… and yet fan control and hooliganism is not a problem with rugby fans. Hell, after every rugby game in college, we ended up going out for drinks with the opposing team.

A guy might have punched you in the face or raked the hell out of you with his boots, but after the game all was forgiven. So its extremely difficult for me to understand soccer hooligans. I guess maybe when the teams are literally beating the crap out of each other on the field, there’s really no need to continue it later. Just look at American sports, what sports have had problems with fans and players and fighting? Football? Not really. But the epic battle of the Pacers versus drunk Pistons fans, Kenny Rogers shoving a reporter, and Franc Francisco throwing a bullpen chair at a fan suggest that I might be onto something.

It is for that reason i propose that before every soccer game, some kind of physical element be integrated into the sport. Maybe at halftime the reserve players could have a battle royale, or ties could be settled by playing the South Park version of roshambo. Who would be in the fighting mood after watching two grown men repeatedly kick each other in the balls? I know that would take the fight out of me, and I think FIFA needs to bring me in as in independent consultant, cause its ideas they need, and ideas… I have.
