I don’t know what is going on recently, but I keep seeing headlines and reading articles that you’d have to be a complete moron to believe: Hillary Clinton is “in to win”, the Sonics might move to Oklahoma City, Barry Bonds has no idea what he ingests anymore and pretty much just helps himself to whatever people give him or what he finds in unattended lockers, oh, yea and this one - the Kansas City Royals are going to be contenders in 2007.

Owner David Glass not only stated that he feels the Royals will compete, he thinks they be contenders in the most competitive division in baseball, the AL Central. Glass even went as far as to state that “this is perhaps the most exciting team Kansas City has fielded in a long time.” That’s not saying very much at all Dave, although you may be onto something: losing games by 1 and 2 runs instead of 5-10 IS much more exciting.

I’ll believe it when I see it, but considering their ‘major’ additions in the offseason are Gil Meche, Octavio Dotel and David Riske, I’m not holding my breath. I think I remember the Royals also saying that they were committed to winning last year when they went to the bank to get free agents Doug Mientkiewicz and Mark Grudzielanek.

Anyway, I’ve got four good reason why I shouldn’t believe this: 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006 - all seasons where the Royals lost 100 or more games.
