So Barry Bonds has failed a drug test, but not for steroids.
Last season, the sulky slugger failed an amphetamine test… yet another controlled substance… but MLB and many fans still have their heads buried in the sand on this one. And before I continue, yes, many other players use and have used steroids: but when confronted many accepted blame or cried like they lost their doggy. Bonds still claims that he did not know what he was taking, and that’s about as believable as “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky”.
And that is the same alibi he went with for the amphetamines as well. Seems that Barry tried to pull a Raffi and told MLB that he took “something” that was in teammate Mark Sweeney’s locker… but did not know what it was; a very believable story if you think that someone under a cloud of suspicion, and in a sport where drug tests are performed, would simply swallow a handful of random pills found in a teammates locker… all without reading the label?
And the best part has to be MLB’s response, which just proves that they have their heads buried deeper than anyone’s when it comes to this:
According to the newspaper, Sweeney learned of the Bonds’ positive test from Gene Orza, chief operating officer of the Major League Baseball Players Association. Orza told Sweeney, the paper said, that he should remove any troublesome substances from his locker and should not share said substances. Sweeney said there was nothing of concern in his locker, according to the Daily News’ sources.
I really wish real life was that easy. Fail a test in college and just say that you cheated off a classmate and did not know what you were copying… only to have the classmate told not to fail his own test and make sure no one can see his test. Maybe ship 3 kilos of cocaine across the boarder.. but it’s okay, all you have to say is that you stole the goods, not knowing what they were of course, off of a pickup truck with license plates 559-HYT and its cool: they will take the heat.
Honestly, at this point I am not even all that upset that he cheated.. and continues to cheat as he chases Hank Aaron’s record. I’m not upset by that much at all anymore… but I am pissed that he and Major League Baseball both think that the public is stupid enough to believe that he had no idea what he was taking this time and in the past. Its pretty sad what you can blatantly get away with these days if you have money and help others make money as well, because if Barry’s knee was too painful to play anymore you know that bastard would be sitting in a cell right now, where taking one for the team has a totally different meaning.
