Wow, those are some lucky Irishmen there in South Bend. 41-14… are they going to wash LSU’s unis after the game too? So with that loss Notre Dame dropped to 1-3 against ranked opponents this season.. all from a team that was ranked 2nd and 3rd in the preseason polls which brings up the question: why even have preseaon polls?
All preseason polls do is set up some teams for an easier path to success. Of course tOSU would still be in the title game had they not been ranked 1st in both preseason polls, but would the Gators have made it if they were not also preseaon top 10? I am starting to think that if the preseason polls are equate to a guessing game then why not put off the polls unitl every team has played at least 4 or 5 games so voters have something more current to base their votes from? Think about Boise State. If Boise State had been the preseaon number 15 team, don’t you think that they would have been playing the Buckeyes on Monday night? By week 5 the Broncos were in all three top 25 lists but I would think that if the list were started from scratch in week 5 they may have been as high as 15-17 instead of 22.
Well, just for the hell of it here are some of the teams from the preseaon Coach’s top 10 (first place votes):
- Notre Dame (9) - Nine first place votes for a team with a creampuff schedule outside of their 3 ranked oppontents (only two of them ranked now) and was destroyed by their top 10 opponents. This team was a bigger box office bomb than Basic Instinct 2
- Oklahoma (13) - Thirteen coaches voted for the team that lost to Boise State. I feel bad for those thriteen programs because their coaches obviously don’t know college football from Aussie Rules Football
- West Virgina - Excuse me for a moment… hard to type while laughing.
- Florida State - Trying to hold down the vomit… I taste pickles…
