Storm Blogging: Winners Don’t Quit: Fisher DeBerry Edition

December 15th, 2006 · No Comments

afmascot.jpgSo another storm hit Seattle this week that caused complete detestation, and no, I’m not talking about the WNBA. I honestly don’t know if I have ever lived in, or heard of a major metropolitan area less prepared to handle adverse weather conditions. It rains all the frickin time here in Seattle, yet the following types of weather will cause the entire city to shut down, or in this case lose power for three days: heavy rain, hail, sleet, snow, ice, heavy wind, sunshine, a light mist, clouds, and much much more. So for now I have to rely on something called a, hopefully I speell this right, a newspaper, for all my sports news as the internet is not up. Man, this is roughing it.

But one story that got to me prior to my being forced to purchase and find news the old fashioned way, a friend called me and told me that Fisher DeBerry resigned from USAFA as the head football coach. Now, as a CSU grad, and the fact that the academy enrolled a known Canadien who we will call T. Young (… no that’s too obvious… we’ll call him Tim. Y), I have long been opposed to their athletic success.

But now it seems that the football team might be in a whole heap of trouble as any new coach that comes in there will most likely scrap the ol’ option scheme that has been moderately successful on non-consecutive years for the military academies who do not have the same size and speed of other D 1-A teams. I really think that the only other kind of offense that would work for those guys would be Urban Meyer’s crazy spread offense. Either way, the sad truth is that with Sonnly Lubbick still at the helm at CSU the Falcons will be 10:1 favorites until he retires. I love the guy, Lubbick, but when you are running the same playbook you have had since 1919 it is only a matter of time before other teams start to catch on.

The field is already named after you Sunny ol’ boy, it might be time to move on.
