Always Look At The Bright Side Of Life

bcs-trophy-02c.jpgSo yes. It is disappointing that Michigan will not get to the title game. I understand the arguments for Florida, especially because Urban Meyer, the Gators, and pretty much anyone with an SEC affiliation has been spouting out propaganda left and right for the past two weeks while Michigan and the Big 10 did not.

One issue I have is that Michigan was overtaken in the polls not once, but twice, all without taking the field. But the major disappointment is the entire system currently in place, as I believe that this will be the 5th year out of 9 where the results of the BCS have ended in controversy. If I remember correctly, the purpose of the BCS was to eliminate split titles between the Coach’s and AP polls, and thus controversy. So far the BCS has failed more than it has succeeded, and that is an obvious sign that the system needs to be replaced.

Personally I say college football needs to go back to the non-BCS system or do what is right and institute a playoff system. In the meantime, I see a nice little scenario where not only can the Big 10 tell everyone to stick it, it will also come at the direct expense of the SEC. I know its a long shot, but here is the perfect bowl game scenario:

  • Ohio State beats Florida
  • Michigan beats USC
  • Notre Dame beats LSU
  • Wake Forest beats Louisville
  • Wisconsin beats Arkansas

I would say that other than the first two games the rest would probably be upsets and not the most likely to occur. But with all the talk of Michigan’s “weak” schedule, and the strength of the SEC when compared to the Big 10 now the Big 10 actually has something they can do about it. So Wolverine fans can be upset for a day or so with the polls, and will most likely be upset once again when the official ballots of the coaches are released to the public, but for now they should focus on the fact the the Big 10 has an opportunity to potentially finish 1, 2, and 3 when its all said and done and I can’t think of a bigger statement than that.
