A lot of blogs, like hatetatellya.com are stating that the recent cancellation of OJ Simpson’s book and TV special is a sign that people now finally realize that its probably not a good idea to indulge those who have committed double homicide in the past. But as far as I’m concerned if clubbing seals is fair play then let’s keep the Juice train rollin’ baby! (sadly my blog will n ow receive 30 hits tomorrow as part of the search phrase “double homicide”)
But another blog that I read on occasion, Just Call Me Juice, took this time to tell the story of the inspiration for the blog title.
We are sitting at the bar finishing our beers, in hurry to get back to our hotel room because this was the day of the Martha Stewart and the verdict was about to be handed in out in the next 15 minutes. As my Dad was getting ready to pay the bill, he is interrupted by someone yelling, “Bill O’Reilly just said he can’t believe I’m free and Martha Stewart is going to jail”… There is no doubt in my mind from the moment I turned around. There was OJ Simpson and a young blonde sitting right next to my dad. As OJ talked to the bartender whom he seemed to know, I lean over to my dad and told him to say hello. My dad says hi to OJ, and then it was my turn. “Nice to meet you Mr. Simpson,” I said. “Just call me juice my man,” said OJ. Famous words.
I will say this about OJ, if not for the fact that the guy killed two innocent people, he would be running for a political office. He was easily one of the most talkative people I’ve ever met in my entire life. Maybe because he actually gets to talk to so few people, but the guy was willing to talk our ears off. He talked my Dad and I like he knew us for 20 years, and actually he thought he did meet us before, as he kept asking my dad if ever met him before.
I should also mention that for the whole 2-3 hours that we talked to OJ, his “girlfriend”or whatever she was never said a word. Not one. She just sat in complete silence. OJ never even acknowledged her once. I’m guessing OJ already gave her “the talk”.
When I was younger I once met Eric Dickerson in an airport bar, but honestly I don’t think there is any chance I will ever have a story to beat this guy’s encounter with OJ. The time in college when we found Bradlee Van Pelt passed out on the courthouse lawn makes for good conversation once in a while, but unless he wins the Heisman and commits double homicide I think I am out of luck for the time being.
