That’s right, reports are coming out that not only is the entire BCS systems total bollacks, last year’s title game was stolen away from the USC Trojans due to technical difficulties. According to a report by Yahoo! Sports, which has really come into its own in the past year, the video replay booth at the NCAA title game apparently was being used to watch reruns of What’s Happening or something other than the game on the field.
Yahoo! Sports has learned the wrong television feed had been plugged into one of the monitors of the video replay system. The mistake meant that replay officials did not have the necessary camera angle to properly review Texas’ first touchdown. A replay official said the feed mixup might have led to another mistake earlier in the game. On that play, it was ruled that USC’s Reggie Bush fumbled…
Without the benefit of another camera angle and without indisputable evidence that Young’s knee had touched the ground, Augustyn let play continue. Texas missed the extra point and, seconds later, the replay officials realized they had blown the call.
Maybe I am being too critical, but what in the hell do we have instant replay for if the replay officials can’t even get a good enough feed from the game to make a decision. If some rando with TiVo can instantly check out a replay and make a good sound decision, how is that technology not being put into play for the NCAA title game? Come on guys, if you are going to have controversy due to bad calls get rid of the replay, otherwise its just sad that your average 12 year old could do a better job with than our paid replay officials.
