A Tale Of Two Managers

October 27th, 2006 · No Comments

Baseball's Retirement HomeApparantly Bruce Bochy is now going to be the next manager of the San Francisco Giants. Even better news is that Barry Bonds has announced that he is officially filing for free agency and that the G-Men have yet to make him an offer (I can’t understand how one $18-$20 million player is a better investment than 4 $5 million players, or possibly even 5 $4 million players).

But back to Bochy. On the plus side he knocked over the Sunsphere… okay no that was Nelson. Bochy did however lead his Padres clubs to NL West titles for the last two years and is the winningest manager in Padres history when it comes to the overall win totals. So, good move, right?

Mabye not. First off, the NL West is not what it used to be. It is definately considered to be the weakest division in all of baseball for two to three years running. Bochy is also the loosin-est manager in Padres history when strictly based on winning percentage, and is also has the second worst inter-division winning percentage of all time for managers who have spent at least ten years with the same team.

So the question is, which Bruce Bochy will the Giants get?
