Yesterday, the Seattle Seahawks made a trade to get Deion Branch from the New England Patriots. As headlines go, it sounds like a good deal. Deion Branch for a draft pick. But let’s look a little closer, shall we kids?
First off. Its no ordinary draft pick, its a first round draft pick. A conditional draft pick, I think I would say “well done”. First round draft pick makes me a little weary. Not only that, they are going to pay Branch, who’s career high in TDs is 5 and has never topped 1,000 yards receiving, first rounder money.
Basically though, I think since they did not trade a conditional draft pick, they probably lose on this deal. The only way the ‘Hawks make out like bandits is if they repeat as the top team in the NFC. The last pick in the first round is dramatically different even from a 15th or 20th pick. So should the SeaTurkeys perform at last season’s level… then the Patriots get a knock and mabye they need to start thinking about keeping a player or two once in a while. Should Seattle drop down to a mid-tier team, shame on them for paying too much for a 5′9″, 5 TD player.
Only time will tell.
