Major League Baseball Hates Me

August 10th, 2006 · No Comments

I Don't Think Bud Went To His Business Ethics ClassesActually its my opinion that MLB just really does not care at all about its fans. Ticket prices are rediculous, they lie about their earnings to justify high ticket prices and even threatened to contract the league by two teams a few years back. Essentially they lie about the profits that MLB owners make to the point where they actually say most MLB teams lose money (total bollocks by the way).

So they license any product they can like earns and coffins, and now they are tying to sneak by their latest attempt at pillaging from the common fan: charging for the use of MLB statistics for fantasy baseball leagues. They sued for the right to charge licensing fees for the use of, well stats. Unfortunately for them history is not on their side. In the NBA vs. STATS Inc in 1996, the courts ruled that statistics are news. Once news happens, no one can own the rights, its public information.

“I would hope that Major League Baseball will look at this decision and say, ‘O.K., we lost that one and let’s move on,’ ” Wiegert said. “They don’t need to be antagonizing their fantasy fans anymore.”

Nope, they are going to go ahead and try and stick it to us, because that is the kind of organization they have decided to be. They will appeal, and I will continue to believe that MLB only sees me as a wallet, not a fan. If they were smart, they would realize how powerful fantasy baseball is when it comes to creating a dedicated and knowledgeable fan base.
