American Floyd Landis won the Tour de France yesterday, making it 8 straight years for an American rider (yea, 7 of those were Lance Armstrong.. but still). The amazing thing is that he did this with a sever hip problem that will require surgery now that the race is over.
Even more impressive is that he may have been hung over. A few days before, when Landis had lost time, he was asked how he was going to deal with the situation.
“I don’t know. Drink some beer? That’s what I’m thinking about now.”
Then, after the next time trial, which is the stage that put him ahead for good and pretty much won him the race, he was asked why he kept asking for water.
“It was very hot. Maybe that was the explanation, or maybe it was the beer I had last night.”
All I know is that is one true American man right there. Good work Floyd. I think I smell an endorsement deal in the making.
