If At First You Don’t Suceed Try Again, And Try Again, And Try…

Don't Do It JaredWatch out for the Mighty Saints of Anaheim. The NFL sure wants it to happen.

All offseason long, the NFL has actively pushed the concept of an NFL franchise in the Los Angeles area. The area, which is one of the largest revenue-producing television markets for the league, is also the rumored area for the New Orleans Saints to relocate to. Currently the NFL is talking with both Los Angeles and Anaheim to see which city would be the best fit, and the NFL is going to go ahead and even fund the building of the stadium, or the upgrade of any current stadium (ie: Los Angeles Colosseum).

Now correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t two NFL franchises fail in Los Angeles? Heck, the Rams are doing better in the much smaller market of Sant Louis, than they did in Los Angeles. The dumb part to me, is how much revenue the league pulls in from the L.A. market, mainly due to the fact that they are never subject to local blackout, and they always get the best game of the week. Put a team that tanks in the standings and L.A. goes from one of the most lucrative markets to a dead zone.

Then you factor in that the NFL gets over half of its annual revenue from media contracts, and wham… you’ve got a terrible idea brewing. And mabye if they grab the Saints, they can parlay terrible financial planning with a PR nightmare.
