Giant DL Problems

June 13th, 2006 · No Comments

Baseball's Retirement HomeRotoScoop.com picked up on this one.  I cannot claim credit, but I will say that I think it plays into why GM Brian Sabean’s strategery does not work:

The Giants certainly didn’t draw it up this way. In 225 games with both Moises Alou and Barry Bonds on the payroll, they’ve been in the same lineup together just 26 times. Unsurprisingly, the Giants have a .696 winning percentage with them both in and a .451 with them out.

Yes, Alou and Bonds are both very good players.  They are also both injury prone players at the end of their careers.  Not a great ‘core’ to build a championship team from.  Hopefully next season they go full bore with Kevin Frandsen,  Dan Ortmeier, Todd Linden, Merkin Valdez, and company.  I would rather see a young, low payroll team stay healthy and gives fans hope, rather than a high payroll team show only glimpses of hope, and while they flash their AARP cards insead of their bats and glovework.
