‘Life Decisions’ For $1000, Alex

June 4th, 2006 · 1 Comment

The Pen Is MightierAll weekend long is been one long final Jeopardy for me. I keep hearing that music and no matter what decision I make I can’t help but think that I am wrong and that Trebek guy is going to point out where I erred.

After almost a year of not finding a good job or opportunity, I have two offers on the table. But instead of being a happy time (which it should), I’ve let it drag me into the mud with anxiety and torment me all weekend. A lot of the apprehension it is that my decision is going to ultimately be based on finances. Normally I would hate myself for taking a job with money being a major factor, but when it comes down to scraping by month to month versus not having to worry about money (at least for a little while), I think that is a different situation.

They say in psychology that studies show there is no happiness difference between those who are loaded and those who are financially “comfortable.” The ones who are a lot less happy though are the ones who are forced to worry about money and paying all of their bills. Mabye this way I can buy myself some sanity for a while, and possibly a couple of cool toys too.

Go for the money ;-)! Toys are always fun to have. The new iPods are nice and heck you might as well go for the new PS3 or XBOX-360

Bottom line, you got to do what makes you happy. If one job pays less, but you are comfortable with that environment, maybe that’s the best choice to make. When choosing between each position where the offer is on the table, ask yourself a couple of questions:

Which company am I the most happiest at?

Which company do I believe in the most?

Which company can I see myself having the most professional growth in?

Push comes to shove, you can always take one of the positions as a resume builder. It never hurts to add some good solid experience to the resume.
