I knew Gary Barnett put the University of Colorado in a big hole. I did not know it was a crater. The Wizard of Odds complied a few articles that discuss the trauma left in the wake of Gary Barnett, and its pretty bad.

The Buffalo Athletic Department needs a $8 million loan to help it cover the cost of buying out Barnett’s contract as well as the contract of the new head coach. The last few years, season ticket sales have dropped by 6,000 and the department is in shambles. The worst part: they are cutting the Men’s Tennis program as well as 12 positions in the athletic department.

If you ask me, this is exactly what they deserve. When the Duke Lacrosse team was connected with one rape allegation… only one… they cancelled the season and the coach was most likely forced to resign. Better take action than to let the behavior get out of hand, or let people think that it is acceptable.

In the case of CU, there were multiple rape allegations spanning a few years, harassment allegations from a female player, a scandal involving recruits, booze and strippers, and to top it all off Barnett was even accused of persuading a victim from going to the police. But Barnett was not fired or forced to resign. Nope, he was cleared. He was a martyr in Boulder. And now? Well, I see them slowly going the way of the Buffaloes… if you know what I mean.
