That is the cunning way of the Oriole.
I remember back in 1996, during the playoffs, a kid who was supposed to be in school reached into the field of play and grabbed a sure out from the Oriole right fielder. Only none of the umpires saw it happen so it went down as a home run that led the Yankees to victory in the game, series and then World Series. The Orioles was robbed.
The kid, Jeffrey Meier, is now a pretty good small-school college baseball player. One reporter took note of this and called Oriole owner Peter Angelos to ask Mr. Angelos if he knew that the boy who robbed the Orioles is now a low level prospect:
I wouldn’t be at all opposed to [drafting Maier]. In fact, I’d say it’s a very interesting development… You can say the Orioles are very seriously considering him. I know this much: I was at that game, and he certainly did seem to be a heck of an outfielder. Sure, we’d take him. In fact, I like the idea more and more, the more I think about it.
I would say that Mr. Angelos is either a very fogiving person, or an evil genious. Either way, wath your back Jeff.
