Starting with the upcoming football season, Connecticut High School football teams will have to play hard… but not too hard. New rule put in place for 2006 says that any team that wins its games by 50 points or more gets penalized by suspending the Head Coach. I have so many issues with this rule… I could dedicate a new website.
Most states get around the issue by running the clock when the lead get to 35 or more. Not in Connecticut. This would take away from the playing time of hard-working backups. Interesting reason considering that the leading team will pretty much have to tell their backups to take a knee. From what I am to understand, the losing team gets to award their backups with playing time. The winning team gets punished by forcing the kid who’s only chance to score a touchdown, is ruined because now he has to skirt out of bounds instead.
Is it just me or are we ruining a lot of great things for a lot of people, in order to protect some from having their feelings hurt. Sometimes life is not fair, and sports are a perfect example of that. Every football game ends with a winner and a loser. I guess now though the losers get a trophy too.
